Star Wars: The Mandalorian series casts Pedro Pascal to star

Star Wars series The Mandalorian has tapped Pedro Pascal to star

There’s been a lot of movement on the various in-the-works Star Wars series recently: following last week’s news that Diego Luna will be returning as Cassian Andor in a new Rogue One series for Disney streaming service Disney+, it has now been revealed that the franchise’s upcoming series The Mandalorian has tapped Pedro Pascal to star.

Pascal, who is known for his work in Netflix’s Narcos as well as for playing Oberyn Martell in Game Of Thrones and Whisky in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, has been rumoured to be involved with The Mandalorian for a while, so it’s nice to finally have confirmation.

The new series has been penned by Jon Favreau, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels‘ Dave Filoni will be directing the first episode. Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa and Deborah Chow have all signed up to direct subsequent episodes.

Favreau and Filoni are also executive producing the show alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as a co-executive producer.

The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, and will follow the adventures of a lone gunfighter (Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy, away from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian doesn’t yet have an air date, but it will premiere on Disney+. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
